WHAT WE DO

SCJC is the hub for policy campaigns to establish time-bound 100% renewable energy commitments in Sarasota and Manatee counties. These local efforts are part of the Sierra Club's nationwide Ready for 100 campaign in which, to date, over 165 cities and 8 states across the US have made 100% renewable energy commitments.

In June 2017, the Sarasota City Commission unanimously committed to 100% renewable energy for municipal operations by 2030 and citywide by 2045, including the transportation sector. Subsequently, SCJC collaborated with city staff to create a Roadmap to 100 report to guide implementation efforts.  SCJC has also supported the goals of Ready for 100 in Sarasota through community education and outreach, efforts to improve local building codes, and partnering with Solar United Neighbors of Florida to carry out two solar co-ops resulting in the installation of nearly one megawatt of rooftop solar power.

Ready for 100 Campaigns are now underway in Manatee County, the City of Venice, and Sarasota County.
